Opposition presidential candidates began a three-day meeting in Mogadishu on Saturday amid gridlock over the electoral process.

As many as 12 candidates, including former leaders, are participating in the conference which seeks a common stance on the election commission appointed by PM Roble.

The country is heading towards hotly contested elections due to start next month and continue until February 2021.

Outgoing president Farmajo is set to run for re-election, facing stiff competition from rival candidates, among them former president and PM.
