The security forces of Somalia’s southern Federal member state of Jubbaland have carried out a massive security operation in the coastal city of Kismayo following a heavy gunfight.

Sa’id Hassan Dahir, the spokesman of Jubbland security agencies, told Radio Shabelle that the sweep saw the arrest of at least 11 soldiers said to be behind Saturday’s clashes.

He promised that the detained renegade soldiers will be arraigned in court to face the justice after killed a prominent traditional elder during the firefight with state troops.

The situation of the city has returned to normal on Sunday, according to the spokesman who added that the operation will keep on until the overall security is assured.
