Al-Shabaab has seized a suspected US surveillance drone after it crashed in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region on Friday, February 2.

The unmanned aircraft went down in an area near Awdheegle district which is largely controlled by the Al Shabaab militants affiliated with Al Qaeda, according to the sources.

It’s not yet clear which country belongs to the crashed drone, but, the U.S. military often uses drones in their campaign against Al Shabaab in southern Somalia.

Last weekend, the group claimed it has captured a similar drone west of Kismayo port town, in Lower Jubba region.
